About La Mariposa Azul

Our new B&B in the hamlet of Tonsel, belonging to the village of Ermelo, is built entirely of wood and has its own solar panels. We plan to green the roof in the near future. The cottage is well insulated and has triple glazing. All rainwater is collected in water storage that is used for the garden and for the pond.

La Mariposa Azul has a small kitchen with a microwave, grillfridge, Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker, electric kettle and a milk frother. There is a seating area and dining table. The bathroom has a shower, basin and toilet. The adjacent sleeping area has a comfortable double box spring bed.

La Mariposa Azul is located at the back of our premises where our chickens and cockerel range freely during the day. We are in a peaceful setting in the outlying area of Ermelo.

The surrounding area

The village of Ermelo lies in the north of the Veluwe nature conservation area, in between the Nuldernauw lake in the northwest and with the Ermelosche Heide in the southeast, a nature reserve of heathland measuring 343 hectares (approx. 850 acres), accessible for daytime recreation and criss-crossed with cycle tracks, walking trails and bridleways.

You may come across the flock of sheep that graze the heath.

With the lakes on one side and the Veluwe nature reserve on the other, our B&B offers plenty to see and do.

The nature reserve around Ermelo and the Hanseatic town of Harderwijk has many miles of footpaths and cycle tracks. Go cycling across the expanses of sand drifts and enchanting heath, or stroll on foot through dense woodland.

The Leuvenumse woods are a great example of the natural variety that this part of the Netherlands has to offer – dense woodland with its native trees, a long, meandering brook through the woods, the sand drifts with steep dunes and large open areas.
